Without vaccination, your child is at risk of contracting various fatal infections such as tetanus, meningitis, and hepatitis. Vaccine injections are among the most critical factors in ensuring your child’s overall health. At HG Pediatrics, we understand their importance, and we offer injections as part of our infant care service. Visit us today for more information on vaccine injections.

Vaccines

Q & A

What are vaccines?

A vaccine is an injection designed to give your child immunity to a particular disease. Usually, vaccines are administered at a tender age to allow the body to develop the immune mechanism against the condition. Each disorder has a specific vaccination.

It is also worth noting that vaccines play an important role in creating community-level protection since they prevent peer-to-peer transmission.

What vaccines does my child need?

When you visit us at HG Pediatrics, Dr. Garza will use different mechanisms to determine which vaccines your child requires. Factors such as age and CDC recommendations will come into play here. Standard vaccines for children under six years include:

  • Varicella: protects against chickenpox
  • DTaP: protects against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus
  • Hib: protects against meningitis
  • MMR: protects against mumps, measles, and rubella
  • IPV: protects against polio
  • PCV: protects against pneumococcus
  • RV: protects against rotavirus

We also offer Hepatitis A and B vaccinations for children under six years.

For children between ages seven and 18, we have vaccinations against whooping cough, the flu, meningitis, and HPV.

Is it safe for my child to get several vaccines at the same time?

The number of pathogens present in vaccines is generally below what the body can naturally handle and provides the required immunity. With this in mind, getting multiple vaccines for your child at the same time is entirely safe.

What’s more, at HG Pediatrics, we will provide you with a vaccination schedule for your child since some vaccines require multiple doses to be effective. You should adhere to the guidelines for your child to get maximum protection.

What are travel vaccines?

If you plan to travel out of the United States with your child, it’s best to get him or her injected with the required travel vaccines. These doses will protect your child against diseases such as typhoid and yellow fever that are more prevalent in other parts of the world.

We offer different travel vaccines at HG Pediatrics. Dr. Garza recommends administering the shots at least one month before traveling to monitor for possible side effects.
